Hi, I'm Miss Alyssa!
My name is Alyssa Hinz and I’m Humboldt's leading expert in preschool dance education (their words, not mine). Dance and early childhood development have been great passions of mine for a very long time.
I began my dance journey at the age of five when my mom decided to enroll me in ballet with The Humboldt School of Dance at Humboldt's City Wide Registration night. My mom was completely new to dance and had no idea that the one page form she filled out and one time fee she paid would put me where I am today. (I doubt any parent thinks a five minute decision will set the path for the rest of their child's life.)
My mom and I went through all the 'first time' dance mom probs (and this was before you could just ask google or youtube for the answer). For my first performance I needed my hair in a bun and my mom had absolutely no idea what to do (we laugh over this now because she has probably done 1000 hair buns between my sister and I by now). She ended up taking me to the hairdresser to get my hair done for every competition/recital that whole season.
When I was around the age of eleven, I began to class assist the younger kids. I fell in love with it. I dedicated every single day of the week to dance. When I wasn't in my own classes I was assisting others. As soon as I turned sixteen I began teaching in small towns and slowly began running their clubs. I taught all through my university degree, teaching about 30 hours a week while going to school full time and being on the university cheerleading team. Safe to say I had a packed schedule.
At the age of 21, one week after I wrote the last final of my degree, I purchased the dance studio two months before the new season was set to start. I had to scramble to get things ready, but managed to open my doors on time. I did not want to pass this opportunity up. I am currently in my third year of operation and am loving every minute of it.
Your child's healthy, safety, and happiness are our #1 priority.
What sets us apart?
Not all floors are created equal. We are the only studio in our area with a state of the art sprung dance studio flooring. Why is this important? They help absorb shock, relieving stress from our dancers bones and joints and preventing injuries. Dancing on a non-sprung flooring can cause long-term health problems and chronic injuries.
Every child matters. We want all of our students to feel like a star and that is exactly the way we treat them.
Exceptional teachers. Our teachers are the backbone of our studio. Your child will come home with stars in their eyes talking about how amazing their teacher is. We guarantee it.
Amazing Opportunities. Throughout the year we offer our students a variety of opportunities that they will absolutely love!
1. Improves Physical Health
Dancing is a great form of exercise, and a love of dance from an early age can help motivate kids to stay active as they grow into adults. Dance classes can increase your child’s flexibility, range of motion, physical strength and stamina. As well as promoting overall health, enhanced development in these areas can help kids with sports and other activities at school and beyond.
2. Enhances Emotional Development
When your child experiences the joy of dancing, he or she learns about expressing themselves in a way that’s beneficial to their physical and mental health. This expression provides a structured outlet for a healthy physical and emotional release that helps develop emotional maturity. By giving children the freedom to channel their emotions and energies in a safe environment, their self-esteem and confidence will increase significantly.
3. Encourages Socialization
Dance is a highly social activity. In a dance class, children learn how to work as part of a team, develop a greater sense of trust and cooperation, and make new friends. With each class, children interact with other dancers in the class, and more often than not develop lifelong friendships with those dancers. Dance friends are forever friends!
4. Encourages Creativity
No matter the style, dance encourages children to be more creative and to express themselves in many ways. By encouraging creativity and imagination, children learn to build trust, effective relationships, and how to think critically. Early childhood is the best period for the development of creativity, and creative problem solving will serve your child for life.
5. Enhances Cognitive Development
Attending dance classes allows children to learn self-discipline and time management. As they get older, dancer must learn how to balance school, dance, extracurricular activities, and their social life. The dedication, discipline and focus children learn and practice in dance classes are important life skills that will transfer over to school, work and other aspects of their lives.
